Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Tile flooring is common in kitchens and bathrooms because of how easy it is to clean and because of its resistance to heat and moisture. There are several other places around your home you can install tile in as well. Since tile can go on your walls, installing them anywhere in your home as an accent in an option. You can also install tile in finished basements, laundry rooms, and entryways to your home. We even offer tile that can be installed outdoors.

Tiles can be installed on floors, walls, and even backsplashes. Floor tile is durable enough to handle foot traffic and other impacts, while wall and backsplash tiles are usually smaller and less durable. Wall and backsplash tiles, however, are more design-focused.

Types of Tile

We carry several different types of tile, including porcelain, ceramic, and stone options.

What makes porcelain tile different from ceramic tile is that it is heated at a higher temperature. This process makes porcelain tile denser, resistant to moisture and resistant to heat. Porcelains density makes it a great floor for areas in your home with heavy foot traffic, and can even be used outside. Ceramic tile is a light-weight and affordable flooring option, and comes in a wide variety of colors. Ceramic tile is also versatile in application, and can be installed on floor and walls. Our stone selection features natural options. Since no two slabs are quarried from the same exact location, each tile features its own variance so you can have a totally custom floor in your home.

We also offer tile in wall and backsplash options. These tiles are small and light weight, and come in many different material options. Tile backsplash can be made from a combination of tile, glass and metal, to create a more dimensional look, and can make a long wall more appealing.
